The distinguished top 10 list is awash with the allure of European cities, with Vienna leading the charge, followed closely by the likes of Copenhagen, Zurich, Melbourne, and Calgary. The top three positions are firmly held by Western European cities, a testament to the region’s unrivaled dominance in the liveability rankings.
The Global Liveability Index meticulously considers various factors, from stability and culture to education, healthcare, and infrastructure, to determine the final scores of the cities. Vienna’s perfect scores in four out of five categories solidify its standing as a haven of easy and delightful living.
Amidst the familiar names in the top 10, we witness the ascent of Auckland and Osaka, with Auckland making remarkable strides and Osaka standing as the sole Asian representative in the esteemed group. While Vancouver and Sydney have secured spots, they have faced decline due to housing-related issues.
The rankings have also unveiled the ascent of Eastern European cities, with Budapest, Belgrade, and Bucharest making significant strides. On the contrary, certain Western European cities, like Dublin and various German cities, have seen declines, signaling a shift in the landscape of liveability.
Despite a slight decline in the continent’s overall score, Western Europe remains the most liveable region in the world, with 30 cities in the rankings and a collective average score of 92 out of 100. Vienna’s enduring reign and the prevalence of other European cities in the top 10 underscore the region’s dedication to providing exceptional living conditions.
In contrast, cities in Australia and Canada have grappled with housing crises and inflation, resulting in declines in their liveability scores. Despite this, they have held their ground in the rankings, showcasing their resilience and overall quality of life.
As we delve into the future, it’s clear that Vienna and its fellow top 10 cities have cemented themselves as epitomes of liveability, offering a glimpse into a world of harmonious and enriching urban life.
