Chinese Punk Legends Reflect on Their Rocking European Adventure

Picture this – for nearly two decades, you’ve been tearing up the punk scene in Beijing with your band, feeling the energy of the crowd as you belt out anthems like “Kiss Me I’m Punk” and “Civilization Crime.” But you’re not content to stay in one place – you’re all about spreading your punk vibes to fans all over the world. That’s the story of Dee Gumbleed, the lead singer of Gum Bleed.

After their 2024 European tour, the band was on cloud nine. They played at five festivals and eleven club shows in six different countries, putting it all together themselves – DIY style. But why tour abroad? For Gum Bleed, it’s about being part of the global punk community and showing that punk is alive and meaningful all around the world.

Their favorite stop on the tour? Finland, with its stunning scenery and booming punk culture. And Germany, which has become their current favorite due to its familiarity and hospitality. But it’s not all about the music – they make sure to savor the local cuisine and drinks wherever they go.

Differences between shows in China and other countries? In China, it’s all about rocking out, but they have to handle logistics like food and accommodations. In Europe, it’s more about tech stuff, but they’re well taken care of in terms of creature comforts. And they can’t help but gush about the vibrant punk scene in Southeast Asia, even with the unpredictable nature of the shows.

Amidst their journey, Ms. Azai joined the band as their bassist, bringing her own unique energy and vibe to the mix. As for their top band to jam with on the tour? Frittenbude from Germany, who bring a different kind of energy to the party.

As for what’s next? Who knows? But one thing is certain – Gum Bleed is not slowing down anytime soon. They’re always ready for the next adventure, the next stage to conquer, and the next incredible memory to make.
