As the new Foreign Secretary of Britain, I am passionate about rekindling our ties with Europe and becoming a steadfast partner and trusted ally.
My upcoming visits to key European partners – Germany, Poland, and Sweden – are about seizing the moment and working closely together to overcome shared challenges. The support for Ukraine, in their fight against oppression, is unwavering. And by teaming up with other European nations, such as Germany, Poland, and Sweden, our foreign and defense priorities are clear – European security ranks at the top.
This recent aggression by Russia has highlighted the need to strengthen our defenses. That’s why we are preparing to attend the NATO Summit in Washington. Our solidarity with NATO allies is steadfast, and we are committed to enhancing our defense industries and facilitating Ukraine’s entry into the alliance.
But it’s not just about security; it’s also about fostering prosperity for our continent. Tackling the climate crisis and investing in future industries are crucial for long-term economic growth. And let’s not forget the personal and cultural ties that bind us – family visits, student exchanges, the arts, and sports contribute to the rich tapestry that is our continent.
Our goal is to mend ties with the European Union and propose a robust UK-EU Security Pact, laying the groundwork for a closer collaboration and a new geopolitical partnership. But this is a dialogue, not a monologue – I am eager to hear the thoughts and ideas of our European counterparts.
